user posted imageHi, I just wanted to share this with all of you smile.gif . I'm very happy because Queer As Folk (where Mr Potter stars as Dr David Cameron, as you all know) will premiere tonight here in my country,Spain, with a double episodeuser posted image. I'm very glad to be able to catch this, for there are so many series/films with Mr Potter that I still haven't watched!
Anyway, I believe we'll have to wait a little for Dr Dave here, because I think he doesn't appear in these first two episodes, am I right? Please correct me if I'm wrong, I wouldn't want to miss it!user posted image
Also, is it true that Dr Dave appears only in the first season of the series?

Love,
ros
JPK
Dr. David doesn't appear until episode five--which explains why I've never watched the first disk of QaF in the season one DVD set. And yes, he's only in season one. Still, David is a gentleman and CP is always worth watching, so enjoy!

Jan
Jannine
Oh Ros. Please feel free to make this an ongoing discussion thread on the topic of Dr David. I for one will be here with bells on. It is one of my favourite topics of discussion! biggrin.gif

I am so happy for you that you finally get to see Chris in this role (in my opinion his best work!) This is where I discovered Chris' work and went on a mad rampage looking for more and ended up here with all his wonderful fans!

Enjoy QAF and be patient for the next 5 weeks... it is well worth the wait.

No spoilers - but lots of enthusiasm looking forward to discussing it with you week by week. biggrin.gif

Jan - thanks for the information, dear smile.gif It's a pity Dr Dave only appears in season one (and only from episode 5!), but I absolutely agree that Mr Potter is always worth watching in any series/film where he appears! biggrin.gif cool.gif

Jannine- So you discovered Mr Potter's work thanks to QAF? That's interesting! In fact, I think I'll make a new thread so everyone can tell about the first tv/movie project they watched Mr Potter in, it will be interesting biggrin.gif
I'm happy because, aside from KF:TLC, this is the first work from Mr Potter that I'm "preparing" and "planning" to watch, rather than finding it by chance and with no time for taping it! laugh.gif (which has happened to me a few times)
Now I'm being patient, waiting for Dr Dave. Last friday it was a double episode so, if the channel doesn't make any programming changes, in less than two weeks David will be in our TV screens! yay! biggrin.gif
Love,
ros
ros
Just adding that I found the "getting to know you" thread where people already talked about how they first "discovered" Mr Potter, so, instead of starting a new thread (as I said in the preceding post) I added my comment there smile.gif

Have fun watching QAF ros. I got my DVDs years before we got QAF on German TV and like Jan never watched DVD 1, but I watched the episodes on TV now. And even without Dr. Dave in it I didn't regret it. And I cross my fingers that you'll get the DVDs as fast as we do. Thanks to the World Cup they haven't even finished the show on TV, but the German DVDs will be released next week nonetheless. biggrin.gif

I am glad you will get to see Dr Dave, it was such a shame he was only in one season.
It was a great hit in Australia too. They have shown the entire series here, some kind of record for Oz.
Our other claim to fame was showing 'A Wrinkle In Time' first lol.
We also had one season only of Silk Stalkings, the mini series Sex Traffic, The Waiting Game, and now Wild Card on cable.

Let us know what other links you have,
now that the old BBS is gone it would be a good idea to make
a new list of fan sites.

We have a great worldwide Kung Fu chat going on every Saturday night at the Honeybat site, and Carmen has a great collection of stuff at her site.
I cannot post the links sorry, but I am sure others will.

Maria T'other
ros
Carmen- You're lucky to have German QAF DVDs! I hope they'll release them here too, in region 2 so I can view them and with spanish audio so I can understand them! At the moment the only spanish DVD we have with Mr Potter is The Pacifier, that I know of.

Maria- Here we have had KF:TLC, Silk Stalkings (translated here as "silk stockings"), The Pacifier (on big screen yay! and it was translated as "a super-tough babysitter"), The Waiting Game (it was called something like "double identity"), and The Shrink Is In ("a crazy love" or something like that). I guess they have also aired "Arachnid" here, as some of the cast is spanish (Pepe Sancho, Neus Asensi) but I have never caught it on TV.
About the links to fan sites, I simply started with a google search and went on from that laugh.gif! I agree it would be nice and useful to have a thread with the fan sites we know, let's do it!
And about the webchat, I would love to participate, I have never been in a chat before. I'll try to make it one of these days smile.gif

So Ros, what did you think of the first 2 eps of QAF? I barely remember the first 4 eps - like most others here, I tend to watch from ep 5 only but I have seen the first few a few times.

I have a friend who is a huge Robert Gant fan and Ben from QAF and she has NEVER seen season 1 of QAF. I don't understand this reasoning at all. I tell her repeatedly that she is missing so much by not watching the first season; where it all began - how the characters came to be.

She won't have it that Dr Dave paved the way for Michael in later years... in my mind she is missing out on so much.

Long live Dr Dave. biggrin.gif
ros
Well, now the channel has made a programming change! And only after two episodes! From now on (that is, until the next airing time change of course!) QAF will air tuesdays and only one episode every night, so now I'll have to wait about a month to watch Dr David! sad.gif Just my luck rolleyes.gif .
About the first two episodes: Firstly, I must confess that I'm watching them in "waiting" mode, as you may have appreciated laugh.gif . We have just been introduced to the main characters and got to know their lives, in their leisure time and at work. I find Michael very likeable, and Justin is very sweet and innocent and very young. Jury's still out about Brian unsure.gif, at the moment let's say he doesn't seem my type of person but we'll see.
Shocker scenes: Brian and Justin at Brian's appartment blink.gif ohmy.gif . Brian and Michael's talk when Brian wants to jump down and Michael climbs beside him and hugs him (Wow Michael really loves Brian!)
Oh please I really want to see Dr Dave!

Love,
Ros
Carmen
Not even three more weeks. That's not that long. You can already use your fingers and toes to count the days. wink.gif
Jannine
Ros - it will be well worth the wait, trust me!

I actually saw Season 3 of QAF first which just about did my head in LOL I then was lucky enough to see Season 2 on TV and that made me rush out and purchase Season 1 - which is where I became fascinated by Chris' work and subsequently Season 1 became my very favourite season - of course.

And don't ponder too long over Brian - the jury will be out on him for a long to come... I think it is still out for me LOL

I now own all 5 seasons of QAF on DVD but Season 1 remains my firm favourite and it will probably wear out! tongue.gif
ros
OK I'm waiting like a good girl smile.gif . Thanks dears for helping me to be patient. I know it will be worth the wait biggrin.gif
Love,
Ros
Jannine
Ros I'm glad you have the patience... not sure if I knew what was coming that I could be that patient.

Can't wait to discuss it all with you!

smile.gif
ros
OK we watched the third episode, the one in which Brian interrupts the baby's circumcission, Emmet falls in love with an asian prostitute who can't speak English, Ted takes a boy home and ends up with a drug overdose, etc. Only two more weeks until Dr Dave!:D

Love,
Ros
Jannine
Yeah, that's a good episode. Emmett cracks me up!

I'm glad they didn't kill Ted off from his drug overdose like they did in the English version. He is such an asset to the show! Love Ted.

2 weeks and counting..... biggrin.gif
ros
Well now we've watched episode 4, poor Ted has been between life and death most of the episode sad.gif I like Ted very much, I'm glad he recuperated biggrin.gif. And Justin is in trouble with his family.
So there is an English version of QAF? I had no idea.
OK only one week for Dr Dave yay! laugh.gif

Love,
Ros
Jannine
The time is near Ros.... I'm so excited for you! biggrin.gif

There weren't too many episodes of the English version made; and personally I don't think it is as good as the US version (Canadian) but I have it on DVD if you would like a copy. Let me know!

An Aussie, Peter O'Brien made it into the UK version!

Bring on Dr Dave!
tongue.gif
ros
Hey in 2 days I'll be watching Dr Dave biggrin.gif And now they have made another programming change: next tuesday, instead of 1 episode there will be 2 episodes together (#5 and #6). OK, I'm not complaining, of course, on the contrary, the more Dr Dave the better biggrin.gif, but it's already the second programming change they make and we've only watched 4 episodes! blink.gif huh.gif rolleyes.gif I hope they pick a definite airing time and stick to it, or I fear they will loose audience unsure.gif . Anyway, I'm happy that I'll be watching 2 whole hours in a row biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Love,
Ros
Jannine
Nothing to complain about there Ros; 2 episodes - you will be beside yourself! I am so excited for you. You must come here immediately after and post your thoughts.

I hope for your sake (and the rest of QAF fans) that they settle on a viewing time and stick to it; nothing worse when stations play around like that. Very annoying. mad.gif

Happy viewing Ros.

Not long now,

it would be interesting to see the reviews afterwards.

ros
biggrin.gif Yay it's 2:00 AM and I've just seen the first two dr Dave episodes!! biggrin.gif
OK, first I must say congratulations to mr Potter, what a talent, he always astounds me with every character he creates cool.gif user posted imageuser posted image
I like dr Dave a lot, he's charming, intelligent, and a gentleman. Maybe I'm biaised, but I feel that his presence has made the series improve a lot biggrin.gif, he's brought more depth to it, and a different perspective,a different way of understanding life.
I loved the first scene with Michael and Dave, so funny when Michael asks him, very emnbarrased, if he can stay a few minutes more:lol: laugh.gif And the dinner date, so awkward in a very cute way! Oh and Brian is soo jealous laugh.gif
Well, sorry if these firsts ramblings don't make much sense but it's very late, way past my usual bedtime, and my brain refuses to cooperate tongue.gif I'll come back tomorrow, after I've watched the eps again biggrin.gif , and try to be a little more coherent laugh.gif I'm very happy to have watched Dr David at last!
Love,
Ros
Jannine
HOW EXCITING!

I'm so happy for you Ros.

Incoherent ramblings are fine in this case.... I'm sure we were all like that after witnessing Mr P as Dr Dave! I know I was...

Yes, I adore the opening scenes where Michael "embarasses" himself! And I love when Dr Dave turns up at the Q-Mart "I think I just asked you out!" and that awkward moment afterwards... so gorgeous and that moron Marley checking David out (like who wouldn't!!!!)

Love the dinner scene - "Is that Hugo Boss" "where?" - hysterical! And the look on David's face while Michael is hammering on about his comic book that he got from Ebay... you kind of wonder how they ever got past a first date!

Mr P does a fantastic job as Dr Dave and I know Ros that you will only continue to be in awe...

Happy viewing babe.
biggrin.gif

Brings it all back,
think I need to go view it again.

So much to look forward to Ros.

Maria smile.gif
ros
Hi again!user posted image
Yes the Hugo Boss moment was so funny! laugh.gif Oh and when Michael takes Dave to Babylon and introduces him to Emmet! laugh.gif laugh.gif
And I love the moment after the dinner date when they are in the car and David stops Michael (who is already on top of him! blink.gif tongue.gif )and tells him "I invited you because I wanted to know you better". What a class! I feel David is emotionally on a higher level than the other characters of the series.
I loved David's look at the art exposition when Melanie, who thinks Dave is Brian's boyfriend, says that Brian will always have Michael. That look reminded me a little of Peter Caine smile.gif
By the way, if someone is interested by these little details, I've been experimenting with my PC and I've made a couple of sound bytes of QAF so you can hear Dr Dave's spanish voice biggrin.gif . They're in .wav format so Windows Media Player shoud play them with no problem (i can hear them all right, let me know if you can't smile.gif ):

-"Hello, I'm Dr Cameron"

-"...And I'd like to ask you if you want to have dinner with me"

Love,
Ros
Jannine
Hey Ros!

"I asked you out because I wanted to get to know you better..." - now isn't there another line here.... ohmy.gif laugh.gif wink.gif

I'm glad you're so into it Ros and look forward to sharing your excitement in the coming weeks.

ros
Jannine- user posted image user posted image user posted image It's obvious that David liked Michael a lot but he stopped his advances all the same, because he wants a deeper relationship smile.gif .And Michael's face when David asked him to stop, like total disbelieve and confusion blink.gif user posted image ,"But I thought... you don't want it?", lol.
Love,
Ros
Jannine
Hey Ros

Yeah, like Michael's thinking is that this rich, successful, handsome doctor just paid for a really lavish meal and now he doesn't want me to go down on him? Good lord, why not???? laugh.gif

And then he goes off to Babylon to pull a "Brian" and get sex there... not classy Mikey!

ohmy.gif
ros
Yes, that wasn't one of Michael's best moments blink.gif laugh.gif He didn't really understand why David had stopped him, so he went like "I'm going to find someone who wants me"!

Love,
Ros
ros
Well, we watched episodes 7 and 8 biggrin.gif
Memorable moments such as the spaguetti "lady and the tranp" remake with David and Michael laugh.gif Also some background on Dr Dave -wow, he's got an ex-wife and a son! And such beautiful words about being true and honest biggrin.gif

Love,
Ros
Jannine
Oh Ros... you mentioned some of fave Dave moments... again... okay - they're all my favourites laugh.gif

Deb and Vic grilling David like a prospective husband - "I drive a jag and I'm comfortable".... so embarassing!!!!

The Lady and the Tramp kiss.... too cute.

Deb listening in on their conversation upstairs - bording on psychotic but amusing all the same!

And yes... the log cabin scenes... amazing work by Chris. All that emotion packed in... - "... who I was... who I am..." - very inspirational indeed.

I'm so glad you're loving it Ros.

This discussion soooo reminds me of the old days of KFTLC. Every week there would be an in-depth discussion on the bbs of the plot, the characters, the motivation, the angst, the acting, and THE HAIR. I'm loving it. laugh.gif
Barb

ps. ros, the Spanish Peter was great!
Jannine
Hey Barb... I so wish I'd been around in the old days to take part in the discussions, I know you guys had a blast.

I am loving reliving the QAF memories with Ros... I've not had the chance to do it before. No one I know watched it religiously and the only person I know who is a fan, has never seen Season 1 so she is no help AT ALL....

Long Live Dr Dave!

Hey Barb... I so wish I'd been around in the old days to take part in the discussions, I know you guys had a blast.

We were so serious - you think things get silly now? Every scene would be analysed, every CP expression, every strand of hair, every tender, angst ridden moment .... we have grown up! When Tom Ryan came to life, there just wasn't much to discuss other than the hair and bitchy Cassy. wink.gif
Jannine
LOL Barb... sounds very serious indeed!!! tongue.gif

Well I do hope that when Mr P's movie and mini-series and new show all come about... they will be discussed at great length!

"bitchy Cassy" LMAO

I look foward to indepth discussion over "every strand of hair" mate!

Cheers.

Jannine, I haven't yet seen any of the SS shows but would love to see them, can you refer me to how I would be able to get copies. Thanks

Jannine, I don't know what happened but I am typing this message again because it wouldn't send for some reason the first time I sent it. You know I am just a complete mess when it comes to this computer. I had noted that I am not at home but when I get there I believe I still have your email address and will try to email you. Thank You Jannine for that.
ros
Oh I would really have loved to be here when there were these in-depth KF:TLC/Peter Caine discussions! They must have been so funny and detailed!:D Peter is my favourite character in my favourite TV show, and thanks to Peter I came to know about the talented actor who portrayed him and I still admire him in every role I have had the luck to watch biggrin.gif. Now I'm really enjoying watching Dr Dave, he's a great character, he can be very profound emotionally but he can be really hilarious too.
Jannine, I loved the scenes between Deb and Dave, at the dinner and afterwards when she's listening to David and Michael laugh.gif And also the first scene of the episode when David learns Debbie is Michael's mother, Michael is embarrased and even scared but David is so charming, nice and self-confident! I loved how he advised Debbie on carrying the tray and how he accepted her invitation for dinner much to Michael's embarrassment laugh.gif
Oh and the little "talk" he had with Brian at Babylon was absolutely epic! blink.gif
Love,
Ros

Jannine
OH yes, to see Deb's face light up when she realises young Mikey is dating a DOCTOR - OH MY GOD.... and when Deb jokes about the food poisoning... you don't see his reaction but you hear Dave's laugh!

And when Dave accepts the dinner invitation - much to Michael's horror, classic stuff.

"You have to stop smiling like that; it makes me want to come over there and eat you like a dessert!" Yummmmmmmmmmmmm

Ah, the famous Brian/Dave chat... I love the interaction between these 2 characters even though most of the time I detest Brian - it is always great drama between the 2 of them - with lots more on the way. You won't be left wanting Ros.

I can't to hear your next instalment! biggrin.gif

(Just so you know, I watch Season 1 over again (what a chore) - just so I could refresh myself for these discussions - but I don't think I needed to just quietly. I probably know all of his lines by heart by now!!! ) laugh.gif
ros
On to episodes #9 and 10 smile.gif
Michael thinking they were going to split after the dinner with David's friends, but Dave asks him to move in with him! And Michael is hesitant! user posted imagelaugh.gif But David is so patient, supporting and understanding. Good idea inviting that nice couple who had been together for 50 years biggrin.gif . And what a sad ending: "I don't want a boyfriend, I want a partner" and David thinking about his idealistic relationship with Michael sad.gif

Love,
Ros

Lol, I have to admit that would have scared me too in a new relationship.

And I second Jannine. The David/Brian moments were the best.
Jannine
Hey Ros. biggrin.gif

Wow eps 9 and 10 already. They are flying by!

When Dave walks into the gym after the dinner party (did somebody say crabs? LOL) - I love the banter between them and then when David spits out that "Over, what's over - I want you to move in with me!" - the look on his face - LOVE IT.

And the trip that ensues; although I thought Dave was more intelligent.... if the other guy can't even say the phrase "move in together" - that would be a good sign that he's not ready! blink.gif

The acting from Chris and Hal in the scene where they break up is amazing; when Dave reflects on his Sunday morning shower with Michael and the tears... gets me every time!

The older gentlemen were an amazing touch to QAF; showing an aging gay couple who have been together so long (as well as George in later series) - I know the scene was respected at the time because of what it stood for - but yes Carmen, I'm with you.... I'd have been running too. laugh.gif

Jannine, I loved the last one too. I've never seen this movie "A Wrinkle in Time."
Love to though. Jannine I have lost your email address but would rather call you if you don't find that too weird. As you may have noticed I am not the greatest on the computer and with emails and such. Just started using it about 6 months ago and am constantly messing something up. My husband has threatened to take it away from me. LOL - I now know what that means. If yes, let me know and give me the appropriate directions to follow in order to do so. By the way, I'm still interesting in getting some work done from you for some family portraits if possible. Thank you very much for this Jannine.
Can somebody please tell me what BBS and OT stands for?
Thank you.

It is so great to hear from a new person who is discovering Dr. Dave. Chris brought so much to the character and to the show. His acting was head and shoulders above most of the cast at the beginning of the show. The scenes where he goes toe to toe with Brian are great. No other character can claim that honor. Overall, the cast really comes together and there is some incredibly good acting to come along with laughs and tears with the fabulous boys.

My only problem with David is I never understood why he continued to want Michael. Mikey was always my least favorite character and the actor playing him never stepped up to the high caliber of acting by the rest of the cast. (This is in my admittedly biased opinion.) I hope you continue to enjoy the journey with the Folk.

Gambit. I think we do have a problem mate. If you are not registered, I cannot contact you off-site and you cannot contact me. I'm not going to post my personal email on the board and there is no way for me to give you my personal number either (even if that seemed viable - given that I'm in Australia and I'm assuming in your in the US)....

I would prefer to discuss these things via email if possible. Perhaps your husband can assist you in that regard if he has any knowledge!

I agree totally about Chris' acting being head and shoulders above the rest of the cast. I think it took them time to "grow" into the characters and lord only knows what Chris could have done with Dave given more time!

I was going to say something else, but I don't want to post stuff that will spoil for Ros... unsure.gif

I think Hal Sparks' acting got somewhat better as the seasons went on and I think he did some particularly fine acting in some scenes (i.e. syringe moment with Ben) but I think Peter Paige will always go down as the best QAF actor that emerged from his role.

lol You think that nice couple scared Michael? It's ironic to think that David invited them to encourage and reassure Michael, but that may have had the opposite effect! laugh.gif As I said the other day, I think David is on a different emotional wavelength than the others.
And, on top of that, there's the other big problem, the big reason for Michael to not pursue a deeper relationship with David, which is...well... Michael's feelings for Brian. OK, I've said it. blink.gif laugh.gif

Love,
Ros
Jannine
That's very astute of you Ros - picking up on Michael's feelings for Brian! tongue.gif wink.gif

That kiss on the freeway after the blow-out gave it away huh???? Talk about inappropriate!!!!

I remember being really annoyed and angry on Dave's behalf - knowing what Michael was up to while Dave enjoyed a nite with the girls - ALONE.

But I was heartbroken for him when he didn't get his 'wish'....

sad.gif
ros
Woo Hoo episodes 11 and 12. Those had some very good David-Brian verbal sparring moments (when David came back from doing footing, at the party...), and David hitting Brian! blink.gif ohmy.gif
I loved David's face when he saw what Mikey had done to the decoration laugh.gif He took it all away! laugh.gif But afterwards he was very nice, he admitted having been scared of that new stage of their relationship(I guess Michael can relate to that lol) and reading Captain Astro comic books laugh.gif laugh.gif
