Since so many people have been so wonderful about offering to send me tapes, I'd like to do the same for someone else.
But you'll have to remember to remind me closer to the air date, Lea. My email is in my profile, so please contact me off-board and we'll set it up.
best,
Pan

Hmmph! I'll have you know that I have a clothes hamper too. In fact, I even have a name for it. I call it "my bedroom floor".

Heck no, JG. Men can operate a washing machine, the directions are on the bottom side of the cover after all. It's clips of men trying to set up and program their VCRs. Heaven forbid they find the booklet and read the directions! }>

And whole feature length movies of men (gasp!

) stopping to ask for directions. . .
Keep em coming, ladies. This is the "old board" ... Loving, teasing, fun....

Guys, we love ya, and I'm quite sure you'll be contributing the male POV.

Directions?? It's just a simple mechanical device! You don't need directions to operate it. It's simple. First you shove the dirty clothes in it, then you dump the water in it, and finally, you toss in the bar of soap (2 bars if the clothes are really, really dirty).
It's clips of men trying to set up and program their VCRs.
Hey, when it comes to electronic devices, I'm the (involuntary) service rep for my entire family, because they're all technically challenged. I'll get these calls at 2 AM, and an alarmed voice on the other end will sputter "You've got to help me! I don't know what to do! The VCR is flashing a 12, and then saying 'Oooooooooooo'!! What does it mean? Is the house going to explode?? Should I get out now?"

are you sure we're not related? i get to do all the taping for the family for the basketball games--now be sure its on, its says such and such a time. timer--i don't think they even know such a thing exists. a t-160 tape? they don't care. they just want whatever the show is.
then i get the duty to make the niece's graduation notices (on the computer) with no notice at all. you have to do all this creating from scratch. and it takes hours. then the sister is calling every other second wondering if why you haven't completed the thing. which of course only slows you down--cause you have to stop what you're doing to answer the phone.
but truthfully i like being the "techno nerd" of my family. the older niece is super smart, the younger one is super gifted athletically. their mom is in the medical field. and somehow i actually have managed to fit in cause i can do something they can't or don't want to spend the time learning to do.
but you're still smarter than me when it comes to computer stuff.
and tom ryan goes face down in the horse manure...(hey it happened in night of the parrot). they shouldn't have stopped "the lone ranger" theme prior to that tho :+

I think you two MUST be related. You carry on like siblings. (is this where I'd use a grinning emoticon?)
Speaking of siblings, my own are such ludites that I get called for long distance VCR programming step by step instructions (these are women siblings and *they* don't pick up the instruction manual either). The last emergency call I got was when my younger sister dropped the tv clicker and she suddenly was getting nothing but snow. (She has one of those digital boxes that I hate so much.) Is it on channel 3, I ask? The VCR is on channel 3, she says. Is the *TV* on channel 3? Oh, says she, I didn't know it was supposed to be.
Apparently, she hasn't touched the channel changer on her TV in three years. Amazing luck.
Gotta love them. Especially when they make it so easy to be the hero.

my dear brother in law (god i love this guy) called me the other week. the clicker doesn't work anymore. and i changed out the batteries. gee--didn't you know that that erases the memory. it does?
okay here are the directions for reprogramming the thing. and he writes down the directions (or he says he is). anyway the other day (two weeks later)he tells me the clicker still isn't working, can i stop by and fix it.
so i go over to the house and within 5 mins not only do i have the tv programmed into this thing i got the vcr programmed in too.
since i'll be unemployed over the summer maybe i should hire myself out to program clickers.
hey jg i don't know about you but i think pan's compliment was like the most ultimate thing. if i can raz you have you raz me back; neither of us lose our cool and start cussing the other out--that's pretty cool.
