Full Version: Silk Stalkings Season 6 available for purchase via Amazon Unbox!
The Chris Potter Pages > CP BBS > Chris Potter BBS
Wendy
Amazon.com has a service now called Amazon Unbox. With its own player, you can purchase digital individual episodes or entire seasons of a TV show to watch. (I know there's also a special feature for TiVo users to download the programs right to that somehow.) I THINK the episodes can be saved to DVD, but you'll need to read the FAQ to be sure of what you can and can't do.

Anyway, Season 6 is now among the Silk Stalkings seasons listed with the other 5:

Thank you for that update Wendy,

I followed through and asked for anything on KFTLC and it gave me those two sites that are selling the dvd's.
I am sure you already know of them, but the interesting bit was that they are sponsored by a part of Amazon.
Now you know I do not know about these things, but does that make them legal? and if Amazon get paid each time you buy from them (it says that) does that help this site?

Well I was bored, it was this or housework.

Actually, I haven't heard of these sites. smile.gif So I looked. But I did not see where they were sponsored by Amazon. And since one of the mentioned sites is the only place I have seen KF: TLC DVDs listed, I'd bet good odds they are bootlegs and not licensed DVDs. And the exorbitant cost for the entire series makes me think so, too. I have seen some posts at other sites who have bought bootlegs of shows at a site called ioffer.com, as well, so it seems like a big business since the studios won't pony up and release "official" DVDs. But beware, as you can't tell what the quality is, etc.

I went back to check and it does say sponsored by Amazon,
I could not upload the page link so I copied it.
hope this works.

I'm not sure the "Amazon Sponsored Links" thing is legit. Amazon DOES have subsidiary stores...but all sellers are through the Amazon site, not offsite. So if you ever decide to do this, be careful. While some bootlegs turn out fine, you never know!

It would be so much simpler if the studios would just release legit merchandise.

That's me right now. I get punished again for not living in the USA. No dl for poor little Carmen. Amazon surely doesn't like me. First Amazon.de wants to make me wait 13 years for the release of Superstorm (lol, they changed the date from 05/28/07 to 01/01/2020, but you can already order *g*) and now this. And I was soo willing to pay to get some hopefully good quality Silk.

Anyway, this is the direct link from Carolyn's shop:

Use the Chrispotterpagesshop to dl SIlk

Ohh, and thanks for finding this, Wendy.

Ahem, cough, cough!

There's a link to the Amazon Unbox on the Chris Potter Pages Shop (see link at the top of the page navigation) or go click here. I'd appreciate it. wink.gif and boy, am I excited!

(I'm adding this reply at the University Village Apple Store in Seattle on one of the new MacBook Pros. Sweet! I'vew kidnapped my husband and Shannon and forced them to watch me drool. rolleyes.gif )

Amazon's Unbox is strictly Americans-only. Same with Itunes Video. [Rants aimed at the CRTC deleted from here.] There are episodes of CSI Miami that I'd love to be able to pay to legally see, but right now p2p is the only option left to me, other than waiting another year for the DVD box set to be released.

Maybe if the Unbox purchases are plentiful the lunatic in charge of affairs for the last 3 seasons of SS will see the light and release the DVD box sets?

Hey Caroline, do you have an affliation set up for Amazon Canada?

I tried to download an older Silk ep a couple weeks ago from Amazon Unbox and found out the following:

1) You can't do it on dial-up (and yes, I'm still on that),

2) You can only save it to your hard drive - you can't copy it to a DVD. That's because of the DRM software encoded in the download and to keep people from bootlegging stuff.

The nice customer service person who I was able to talk to (yeah, it surprised me that Amazon.com has live people working there to help out) told me about both of those "issues".

As for those websites selling the boxed sets, I'd suggest checking on TVshowsonDVD to see if they've been released or get the "official" word on release. If there's nothing offiical, then it's a bootleg.

Ha, I could have told you that. I got my last proof when I asked if the version of Superstorm, they put up on Amazon.de (when they still said release is 5/28/07 and not 01/01/2020), was the German dubbed version and the answer I got was: "We don't know that, use Google." blink.gif

Anyway, I think it's rather strange for a big company like Amazon to have so many restrictions. I don't even want to know how much money they lose from fans worldwide, who would be more than willing to pay for their downloads as long as they get their favorite shows.

Ouch! No Silk Stalkings download for me either sad.gif. I wonder what's the reason fo this "US only" rule. unsure.gif Hope that in time they extend this service to clients from other countries.
And, about KF:TLC, I don't think there are official DVDs yet. As far as I know, Warner hasn't said anything else about putting this series on DVD since last year (when they only hinted they "would evaluate" it). So these pages must be offering bootleg copies, I'm afraid dry.gif sad.gif .

Hey Caroline, do you have an affliation set up for Amazon Canada?

hmm, didn't realize they required a separate set up (but I should because a friend has links to both Amazon US & UK on her site.) I'll look into this, Alicia. They've been updating and making changes like mad this past year at Amazon Affiliates and I'm just now finding out how the new stuff works.

Thanks for bringing this issue to my attention. I guess I'd better look at UK & Europe, too. Is there an Amazon Australia?

An update on the shopping expedition. Shannon was seduced into getting herself a video iPod, some excellent Bose headphones and a hook-up that allows her to feed her video iPod to her car stereo system. Warning Seattle! Shannon is driving with a playlist! If they ever start Stargate fan fiction podcasts, we'll never get her unplugged. (We've just got to get her on faster broadband... She's threatening to hook up that scanner that's been in the box for two years next. cool.gif
