The first part of Superstorm will be on British TV (BBC One) sometime during week 16. That's the week from 14 - 20th April. Here's a link to the programm info with a little pic of a wet Dan Abrams and a short character info, as well as a summary of the series. I'm really looking forward to see this.

What an INSANE picture for that website to post of this lovely man. Nevertheless, many thanks for the link, Carmen.
Jannine
Thank you so much Carmen. That is a great site.

I agree Pan - surely there were better pix to show off the character!!!! But at least its there - others weren't that lucky! lol

Anyway - I'm hoping the show hits our shores soon. They ran ads here for it at the beginning of the year - so hopefully it means it will run sooner rather than later. Fingers crossed.

Carmen,

Thanks for the link. What a strange article.

It starts out as a review of the project with a plot synopsis and info about the cast, but then digresses into a meteorolical explanation of what a storm is, complete with a listing of the projected names of all potential hurricaines in 2007. Can we say "look at the shiny keys"?

And I agree with you, Pan; what an awful picture of CP to put in that article. IMO, it doesn't even qualify as an action shot - just a bad weather one. huh.gif
Carmen
I think the explanation about hurricaines may have something to do with the fact that the series will be accompanied by a documentary about hurricaines.

Btw, Valerie found an airing date: April 15th at 8.15 pm / BBC One . Just in case any British fans are reading this, I don't mind spoilers. wink.gif With a warning of course.

I just saw this today:

15/04/2007 - BBC1
21:00: Superstorm
Set in the near future where global warming has led to ferocious hurricanes, a factually-based drama series which follows a team of scientists as they embark on a project to investigate ways of diverting and weakening storms. They are given clearance to fly into a small hurricane and seed it with silver iodide - a technique first developed in the USA in the 1960s in a government-funded project called Stormfury. However, just after the seeding takes place the plane crashes, killing all on board.
(60 mins)

It's also listed for pre-order on DVD:

Oooops. my fault.

That was probably wishful thinking. 8.15pm is the start of our primetime. blink.gif

And you can also preorder at amazon.co.uk or BBC one. The price for the DVD is the same, just the shipping costs are slightly different.

These DVDs are region two, so won't play in the states or Canada unless you have a multi-region player. I think.

Yay!

I managed to catch first part of Superstorm in Dublin (they were getting BBC1 from Northern Ireland).

It was off to a great start, lots and lots of CP in it. Not much CP action though, unless you count a brief kiss. They started off slow, imo a little too much talking, to get the background of the characters. Then when the action really took off, the hour was over. <Sigh> it's gonna be a long wait for the DVD!

UK folks, feel free to send me some spoilers for the upcoming episodes!

smile.gif
Maria
Pan
I'll second that yay! Good to hear from you, Maria. And to hear that CP's snogging on the screen once again. wub.gif
I'd love to hear about Ireland. Wasn't it kind of wet this time of year? I guess if you don't have the wet, you don't get that incredible green though.

Anyway, thanks for the CP update.

Superstorm, BBC1, Sunday 15 April 2007
Did we like it?
The BBC's prestigious new drama set in the near future was certainly entertaining and even pulsating at times, but with so much crammed into one opening episode the characters were, almost necessarily, more like caricatures which hindered our enjoyment somewhat.

What was good about it?
• The idea behind the series is that top scientists and mathematicians may one day find a way of battling hurricanes - either by somehow making them less serious or perhaps by creating other weather to deflect them from land. This is an enticing and fascinating premise. It also allowed for a small amount of political commentary. When George Katzenberg calls the scientists together (yes, like they a group of X-Men) it's clear that it's economic concerns, rather than the cost to humanity that is at the centre of the Government's hope that weather can be controlled. So, after years of warnings and counter arguments that to fight global warming will ruin the economy, they end up throwing stacks of cash at an attempt to 'play God', as one character put it.
• The device whereby scientist Sarah Hughes was interviewed on TV some time after the events we watch unfold was unusual and worked quite well. It built suspense because it planted certain thoughts and expectations in the viewers' minds and added more weight to a looming sense of doom present throughout.
• There was some really cool science stuff in there, such as their brilliant laser machine that allowed them to delve right inside hurricanes to analyse them.
• We could not fault the programme for building suspense and moving towards a fascinating, terrifying climax, where, as we suspected, Ralf died while flying into the hurricane. We knew he'd die because he was the most innocent, the most likeable and he shouldn't have been in the plane in the first place. But it was still a genuinely dramatic last ten minutes or so.
• The factual information about weather and the behavious of hurricanes was well-explained and always interesting.

What was bad about it?
• The drama too often touched upon unnecessary cliche and ridiculously simplified language. When being interviewed on TV, Sarah was asked: "Is this a force for good when in the right hands?" which is a stock Hollywood cliche, not the words uttered by a Newsnight-type presenter. Worse still, doomed assistant Ralf asked the group: "If we can't pull this off, show me someone who can" - a line that was frankly laughable and would have seemed cheesy in the lastest Ninja Turtles movie.
• The programme was full of one-dimensional characters - the arrogant, cool, young mathematician - brilliant and good looking, but incredibly annoying and nothing but a cipher, for example. There was the grizzly old school meteorologist early on, and later we were joined by the money-obsessed, possibly corrupt Senator Wallace and a foxy, sarcastic, red-haired chick as the IT expert (yes, our eyes rolled too).
• The overall style was interesting, but was too often hampered by unneccessary flashbacks and unpredictable switches to black and white. Munish and Dan also had a conversation in three different places that were edited together to make one continuous conversation. Presumably this was to indicate they spent a long time talking in circles, but in reality it just didn't make sense. Here you have an intrinsically fascinating subject - why ruin it with misguided MTV tricks?
• Tom Sizemore as George Katzenberg. He needs to stop watching the Godfather movies. Pacino should sue for copyright infringement.
• Quite simply, there are too many young, brilliant scientists in this drama, all horny and with lives full of 'issues'. This is a mini-series about superstorms that kill thousands of people and how they might be stopped. It's as if this scenario doesn't throw up enough dramatic possibilities on its own. Ralf doesn't just die, he has to die trying to profess his love for Sarah, who in turn is trying to prove that her discredited Grandpa's theories held weight. Meanwhile, horny-for-Holly Munish is scarred by the Bhola Cyclone that he endured in Pakistan as a child. One can only hope if a team like this is ever gotten together then their personal lives are more settled, otherwise they'll all be too busy *&^%$#@ each other to save the world.
• The photo of the blizzard in the Ghobi Desert, apparently created by 'the Chinese'. The Chinese, of course, have replaced the Russians as the de facto 'they're up to something' bad guys of TV dramas and Hollywood blockbusters these days. While mathematician Lance was busy demonstrating how it was 'fantasy' to even slightly alter the weather, here was proof of the Chinese creating it themselves, which seemed a little over the top. Unless, of course, Katzenberg was showing the Senator a mocked up photo in order to get the cash he needed to finance his weather project by appealing to his sense of patriotism and fear of foreign power. In which case, you have to admire Katzenberg's bluff.

I'm so tickled that we're all in agreement here, that we're so incredibly atutue (shallow) as to spend valuable time (bandwidth) on something as important (or is it trivial) as HAIR. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

We haven't changed one little bit since KF:TLC. Only grown more into ourselves. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif blink.gif rolleyes.gif

One of the German fans made this. Actually she made it in wallpaper size, but I didn't get that one yet.

So, just as a slight teaser until everybody had a chance to watch Superstorm, what hopefully will be soon. Currently I'm quite optimistic, that we'll get a nearly worldwide DVD release on May 28th. That's a good date anyway, it's our anniversary. biggrin.gif

Valerie
I really like this one and hope we will soon get it in wallpaper size biggrin.gif

Ok, it`s the rain pic again, but it`s bigger this time:

HMV published a cover: (HMV)

I am very happy to see Chris on the cover and I really hope this is the final one, because HMV is the only store publishing a cover so far.

Of course we have to discuss the hair! It's Very important. I miss the long, thick hair that he had on KFTLC but then, he probably misses it as well. Does anyone know American network TV will show "Superstorm"? I would love to see CP in a role other than that of cop (KFTLC & Silk Stalkings) put upon husband (Law & Order SVU), but, I have to admit, I do like the idea of CP action hero (Arachnid).

Soap Star is not too bad either, come to think of it. Now, if we could just get him more scenes without a shirt on or, maybe pool scenes in just swim trunks? HMMM....Now, how do we tell the director of Y & R about this???

Valerie
I love his hair in "Superstorm" biggrin.gif Unfortunately I haven`t heard about an airdate for the US. But BBC Shop published the cover:

Just got my copy of Superstorm delivered from Amazon UK and watched the whole bloody thing on Sunday morning.

When making the DVD, it looks like BBC just burned three separate episodes to the disk. Instead of playing as one long story, it was broken up--including end titles--into three sections. I just hit "Play All" on the menu, but playing "all" included having to go through closing credits three times.

Overall, I was impressed. Yes, the characters did seem to fall into the stereotypical roles, but the actors all did a fine job, so I wasn't as bothered by the predictability as I might have been if less-able actors were cast. Very cool special effects. Interesting point of view in how the story was told.

Totally agree with you about the end. I hated it also.

I got to finally saw it last night and he was awesome in it!! He was so intense!! We could look through his eyes and see the emotions he was feeling. Loved it!! I'm so glad he didnt die!!
Carmen
How did your version end?
Dannewfan
He was at the hospital with Josie and Sarah!! He was watching the news George was on.
Carmen
*thud* That's certainly different from what we got to see in the UK version. Makes me more anxius about watching the movie on German TV later this month.
